G-UNITY FOUNDATION SUPPORTS HERSHE WITH $10K GRANT

Despite the negative attention the hip hop community gets regarding their lyrics and lifestyle, some rappers are using their celebrity to give back to the community. Curtis Jackson, III, also known as “50 Cent,” founded the G-Unity Foundation which provides grants to non-profit organizations that focus on improving the quality of life for low-income and underserved communities.
With a $10,000 grant, 50 Cent and the G-Unity Foundation made it possible for HerShe to expand its program and serve more young girls in foster care from Compton and south central Los Angeles. "The G-Unity Foundation is proud to support the HerShe program and the Cinderella Ball,” says Nina Biggar, G-Unity foundation consultant. “As these young women leave the foster care system, it is so critical that they have a support network like HerShe that can prepare these girls as they transition into independence. This is a truly unique program."

Other rappers who support HerShe include Eminem, Eve, Heavy D, MC Lyte and most notably, Dr. Dre, who donated to the HerShe Group a brand new Chevrolet Suburban to transport girls to and from HerShe events.
