Meet a HerShe Girl: Tara

Tara is a manifestation of the HerShe mission. She is a member of the HerShe Group’s Alpha Class (first group of girls to join HerShe). She became a HerShe when she was 17 years old and in the 11th Grade. Her first year mentor, Tiffany Barnes, was critical to her success during her last year of high school. Now in her second year of HerShe, she is ready to begin making her transition into adulthood. 65% of foster youth do not graduate from high school. She has already beat that statistic by graduating from Gardena High School this past August.

Our next step with Tara is to increase her ability to earn a living wage — a HerShe standard that all HerShe girls must meet to successfully complete the program. Tara’s current mentor, Maria Rice, connected her with Job Corps, where she will train to become a medical assistant. Tara said, “Thanks to the HerShe Group, I have the support I need to succeed. The sky is the limit!”
